Evolution of Glassy
Glassy is constantly evolving. Here is a look at what has changed recently.
v2.0.0The 'Focus Environment' Update
Site Blocker, Reports, Todo Depth & Cloud Sync
Glassy's biggest release yet — turning the new tab from a dashboard into a focus environment. Site blocking, a to-do list deep enough to replace your task app, real productivity reports, and wallpapers that follow the time of day.
Site Blocker: Block distracting sites, or flip on Deep Focus to block everything except an allowlist. Set focus hours to block automatically on a schedule, or have blocking switch itself on with your Pomodoro. Free covers 5 sites; Pro is unlimited.
To-do depth (Pro): Due dates, times, reminders, repeats and priority. Finishing a repeating task creates the next one, so habits build a real history — and overdue tasks turn red and move to the top without ever nagging you.
Focus reports (Pro): Weekly and monthly views of your focus time, sessions and tasks, with insights on your best hours and strongest weekday, habit streaks, and PDF export.
Time-of-day wallpaper packs: Curated packs that shift from morning to day to evening to night. Natural Light is free; Coastal, Metropolis and Ambient are Pro. A pack never overwrites your own wallpaper — turn it off and yours comes straight back.
Pomodoro presets: Classic 25/5, Lock-In 50/10 and Rhythm 90/20, plus custom durations — free for everyone, and the timer, ring, mini widget and popup now always agree.
Productivity stats: Focus time, sessions and tasks are recorded automatically with a daily goal and streak. Time-per-website tracking is strictly opt-in, keeps only the site name, and never leaves your device.
Screenshot editor additions: A blending highlighter that keeps text readable, auto-incrementing step numbers for walkthroughs, and a watermark applied at export across PNG, JPEG, PDF and clipboard.
v1.5.0The 'Privacy & Polish' Update
Privacy-First Permissions & UI Polish
A focused update introducing dynamic optional permissions for a friction-free install and improved user privacy.
Privacy-First Permissions: High-friction permissions (like Tabs and Most Visited Sites) are now optional and requested only when the tools are enabled.
UI Polish: Refined onboarding layout structures and interface elements for a cleaner, unified dashboard experience.
v1.4.0The 'Control & Polish' Update
Extensions Manager & UI Enhancements
A robust update bringing a highly requested feature and several interface improvements.
Extensions Manager: Take control of your browser with the new built-in Extension Manager tool. Easily toggle or remove your installed extensions.
UI Enhancements: Polished visual elements for a cleaner, more intuitive aesthetic across the extension.
Bug Fixes: Various under-the-hood fixes for improved stability and smoother performance.
v1.3.14The 'Stability & Refinement' Update
Enhanced Persistence & Personalization
A focused update following our version gap, bringing better data safety and UI refinements based on user feedback.
Note Persistence: Implemented automatic state saving for the Notes tool. Your drafts and view states are now safely stored.
Search History Toggle: Added a privacy option in Settings to enable or disable recent search history.
Tab Behavior: Updated Quick Links and Most Visited icons to open in the current tab by default for a more seamless experience.
Improved Google Icons: Enhanced differentiation for Google services (Drive, Photos, NotebookLM) in the Quick Links section.
New Default Aesthetic: Replaced the initial blue background with a curated scenery preset and optimized overlay darkness.
Stability Fixes: Resolved an issue where the welcome note would reappear after deletion and fixed the infinite loading skeleton.
v1.3.3The 'Level Up' Update
Total Customization & Polish
A massive leap forward for Glassy. We've skipped straight to v1.3 because this update completely transforms the experience with deep customization, data sovereignty, and a professional support system.
Rich Text Toolbars: Format widgets with Bold, Italic, Shadow, and Outline styles. Now supports 12/24h time toggles.
Backgrounds 2.0: 'Random Wallpaper' button with smooth crossfade, hover-to-play GIFs, and a cleaner Palette selector.
Smart Quick Links: Automatic icon fetching with a choice between 'Colorful' or 'Glassy' icon styles.
Data Sovereignty: Added 'Export Data' to backup all notes, tasks, and settings to a portable JSON file.
Support Ecosystem: Added a dedicated Feedback page, GitHub Issues integration for bugs, and a built-in 'What's New' changelog.
Onboarding: Added a 'Welcome Guide' to help new users hide the Chrome footer and set up their workspace.
UI Polish & Fixes: Darker glassmorphism, cleaner Tab Manager, draggable Zen Mode button, and fixed sorting/dropdown bugs.
